Increasing Trend For Psychedelic, Pop, Backgrounds In Contemporary Logo Design

    Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Complex, multi-colored, layored, flat patterns are an increasing trend in logo design and branding recently. From the Museum of London, 2008, redesign which transformed the institution’s identity from a flat, red box of hyper-mod-simplicity to a multi-layered, color orgasm of neo-retro whimsicality. Many prominent institutions have adopted this expression of vibrant spirit through visual design, such as 101 princess St ( A Manchester Office Building ), and Corporate Relocations, Africa. The prism of flat pop color both using organic shapes and rectilinear patterns have a playful sense and boundless inventiveness which large institutions may view as forward thinking.

Apple and Microsoft Release Critical Patches For PowerPoint

    Thursday, May 14th, 2009

Both Apple and Microsoft have released urgent and critical patches for Power Point. Apple has updated OS X 10.5 to 10.5.7, and Microsoft has released its update (MS09-017) nearly concurrently, which address numerous significant security risks. This massive Security update for Apple (442MB in total or 729MB for the combo update) also addresses some stability and capability enhancements for Safari. For Microsoft, the security update covers every single version of Power Point: PowerPoint 2000, 2002 (XP), and 2003 are the versions affected by most of the vulnerabilities, which could lead to remote code execution.

    Investigation of Car Warranty Robo-Call

    Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

Senator Schumer Calls for Investigation of Car Warranty Robo-Call. The Better Business Bureau stated that they received more than 140,000 complaints about the calls–even from people on the federal “Do not call” list. Schumer called the scheme “robo-dialer harassment.” The messages the companies leave are misleading, eat up phone minutes on call phone users, are a general nuisance and, as it has been reported, is an active scam. A class action lawsuit was filed against USfidelis Inc. charging that company officials ignored a subpoena demanding that they answer questions about their business.

Google To Invest In News Industry

    Monday, May 11th, 2009

Google, often the antagonist of the newspaper industry, has recently began talks with the New York Times and the Post about a potential collaboration (source: Fortune and The Washington Post). Google obviously benefits from the content produced by the New York Times and others in the news industry–yet Google has been regarded more as a leech than a contributor to a symbiotic relationship. Such a collaboration could be an act of preservation to a troubled industry.

Kindle Adopts Larger Screen, Interest Grows

    Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Amazon’s electric reader, The Kindle, just got a bit bigger. The new Kindle DX features a larger screen and the buzz builds. The DX is two and a half times the screen size of the previous version, and it can hold up to 3,500 books.

Amazon states that the goal of the Kindle is that “every book ever printed, in any language, [can be] available in less than 60 seconds”. The growing attraction to this specific technology and web based publishing in general has severely hurt the traditional newspaper industry.

Nigeria undergoes a rebranding effort to attract business

    Saturday, May 9th, 2009

Nigeria has once again undergone a rebranding effort. The goal of the re-branding campaign was to attract foreign investment. Critics scoff at the campaign, saying it cannot cover up the very serious problems that would scare away any serious foreign investor.

The campaign slogan “Nigeria, Good People, Great Nation” was spearheaded by Nigeria’s Minister of Information, Dora Akunyili. This slogan will replace Nigeria’s last and unsuccessful campaign “Nigeria, Heart of Africa”. The last rebranding campaign cost Nigeria 5.6 million dollars and critics state that little good came of it. The current campaign will have a budget cap of 1 million public funds and the rest will come from the private sector and individual donors. Some proponents of the campaign believe that it will help build support and energy within the Nigerian community to focus on and solve the country’s problems of lack of infrastructure, focused and effective leadership, and free/fair elections. Proponents say that the campaign helps invest pride and a sense of purpose for Nigerians wishing to get their country back on track.
