More than 60% of smartphone conversions come from email marketing. The insight comes from SeeWhy Conversion Academy, which analyzed more than 150 million web events in December 2013.

The report shows that mobile conversions on mobile and tablets grew rapidly in 2013. About 19% of ecommerce conversions come from mobile and tablet. This is an overall growth rate of 46% over the last 6 months--an exciting number for those in the eCommerce industry.

Smartphone conversion sources

  • 62% of smartphone conversions came from an email
  • 21% referral link to a website
  • 12% that were direct visits

Possibly 5% share attributed to search may be understated due to Google’s “obfuscation” of search terms the company admits.

Consumer behavior is changing with technology. Consumers have adapted an "always on" mentality when it comes to shopping. Mobile and tablet has helped ecommerce organizations immensely.  Ecommerce is growing, and poses a threat to retailers. A recent survey found 27% of shoppers made their last purchase online--double the number from the previous year.
