Paid search performance for 2013

Global PPC advertising did very well in 2013. Paid search increased by 7% year-over-year, and in the third quarter of 2013, paid search increased by 13% globally, according to data from Covario's Q4 2013 Global Paid Search Spend Analysis.

Paid search for mobile also faired well. Advertising on mobile gained 23% from Q3 to Q4 of 2013--55% higher from the year before.

Costs for keywords on average decreased in Q4 of 2013.

Also worth noting, advertising effectiveness remained at an all time high in Q4 of 2013. Ad effectiveness did 28% better than Q4 of 2012.

In the US, search spend was up 17% quarter-over-quarter and 9% for 2013.

In terms of search engine leadership, Google continues to be on top. Google holds 84% of the world's paid search marketshare.
