Google will lose PC search revenue to mobile.
According to a report released by eMarketer, Google may lose $1.4 billion in paid click revenue from PC search. The report attributes the drop in revenue to a migration to mobile devices, which also generate less revenue per click. This would be a decrease of 9.4% from 2013, and the company estimates that paid click revenue from PC search will drop by the same rate in 2015.
The report estimates that the drop in revenues may in part be offset by growing ad spending in mobile search. Mobile ad spending is forecasted to increase by 83% in 2014 and 46% in 2015. In total, mobile search is anticipated to generate $9.02 billion in comparison to $13.7 billion derived from desktop search.
Mobile search has been taking over a significant share of Google's search revenue. Mobile search is predicted to increase from 19.4% to 26.7% from 2013 to 2014. Meanwhile, PC search revenues are estimated to decrease from 72.7% to 63% during that same period.
