What US Travelers Want From Digital Services

US travelers are highly interested in digital services.  

The internet has altered the way we interact with just about every product and service available. The hotel industry is no exception to this, and a new study ran by MCD Partners offers us additional insights into how people perceive digital experiences within hotels. The study found that a hotel's website and / or app impacted the decision to stay for 70% of travelers. Within that particular survey question, 72% of business, 64% leisure and 74% of family travelers found it important.

Guests also seemed very receptive to having their stay improved, with 74% of guests stating that they were open to the use of digital data to improve their stay. 79% of business, 71% of leisure and 72% of family travelers were open to the concept of using data to help enhance their hotel experience. Those surveyed also seemed interested in having a wide range of hotel-related services available on their smartphones. Consumers expressed interest in the following smartphone services:

  • Amenities & Hours - 80%
  • Maps of Areas - 78%
  • Automated Check-In - 73%
  • Late Check-Out Request - 68%
  • Concierge Tips - 68%
  • Room Key - 64%
  • Room Service - 62%
  • Bill Payment - 61%
  • Taxi Scheduling - 55%
  • Syncing with In-Room Television - 43%
