Twitter has always been a bit reticent with advertising in fear of degrading its user experience. Perhaps that's changing. According to a new article from the Wall Street Journal, Twitter plans on releasing 15 new types of ad products and targeting tools in the next six months.

Yoree Koh, author of the WSJ article, said that Twitter is hoping to win over eCommerce businesses and mobile-game developers in order to raise advertising revenues.  Advertising is currently Twitter's largest source of revenue--with $219.6 million in the forth quarter alone. Twitter is still not profitable however, and the company' stock price has dropped 33% this year--putting pressure on the new publicly traded company.

The first release of the new ad and targeting products should happen in the next few weeks. We assume many of the new ad types will focus on mobile app downloads. So far, Twitter's ad formats have not dramatically hindered its user experience. But, Twitter has a much larger pool of investors to satisfy now.
