Broadband penetration in the US

New results from research by the Pew Research Center’s Internet & American Life Project, reveals the access the Internet at home via a high-speed broadband connection in the US.

Based on the report, 7 in 10 Americans aged 18 and older are able to access the web at home via a high-speed broadband connection. This number represents a grow of 4% in a little over a year and is the highest broadband penetration recorded.

A couple interesting facts jump out in regards to broadband penetration

  • 46% of Americans have both a home broadband connection and a smartphone
  • Penetration rates are almost twice as high in the 18-29 (80%) and 30-49 (78%) age groups as in the 65+ group (43%)
  • 89% of college graduates have broadband access at home
  • 37% of respondents without a high school diploma have high-speed broadband
  • 62% of rural Americans have broadband access
  • 70% of urban respondents and 73% of suburban adults.
